You may not know his face, but you sure know his voice, and he just started his musical innings.

Forty plus seems to be the magic age in Bollywood and it is not limited to stars on screen; the same is true for 46-year-old singer Tochi Raina. You may not know who he is, but you definitely know his voice through songs like bubblesah (A Wednesday), O Pardesi (Developer D), Ik Taara (wake up sid), Gal Meethi Meethi Bowl (Aisha), Aali Re (No one killed Jessica), Saibo (Short in the city).

Although he is a new singer on the music scene, having sung bubblesah in 2008, her diverse cultural background lends herself greatly to her sound and voice. Raina was born in Bihar but lived in Pakistan, Kashmir, Patiala, Nepal and Punjab before settling in Mumbai. Raina’s musical sensibility is mainly Sufi. “It took me a long time to get here, but I’m happy with the job I’m being offered. The poetry of the songs I have composed so far have adapted to my voice and have also been successful,” says Raina.

meditation and riyaaz are the highlights of his day. “I have been practicing Vipassana for 14 years and I do 8-10 hours of riyaaz everyday. I was also an Osho devotee and lived at the ashram during Osho’s lifetime. I am a spiritualist and this is also reflected in my songs.

Her dream is to be the voice of Aamir Khan in a movie and to work with Gulzar one day soon. But for now, he’s enjoying the MTV Coke Studio experience and performing with established, raw vocalists on the hit music show.
