A feature of the Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK), one of Malayalam cinema’s most powerful bodies, has become controversial as it has reignited a debate over filmmaker Ranjith, who is also president of the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy .
Ranjith was instrumental in inviting Bhavana, the survivor of the actress’ 2018 assault case, to the inaugural ceremony of the recently concluded Kerala International Film Festival. The gesture of inviting Bhavana to the event was much appreciated, but Ranjith came under criticism as he had visited actor Dileep, the 8th defendant in the case, while he was being held in prison. Ranjith exposed the incident, but the apparent lack of righteousness on this issue continues to be debated nonetheless.
It is in this context that Ranjith shared the dias with Dileep today. Ranjith attended the reception to receive congratulations organized by FEUOK on his appointment as President of Chalachitra Academy in Kerala State. Dileep, the current President of FEUOK, in his speech praised Ranjith “as the best person to lead Chalachitra Academy”. Under the scanner again, Ranjith clarified that he was invited by the secretary of FEUOK, an organization with which he shares good relations. He also stressed that it was not a personal matter between him and Dileep.
